No trending topics

You won’t see me post about any trending topics in AI-land.

I know a topic’s hot when every newsletter I read and every refresh of my LinkedIn feed has a mention of it.  Every week, there’s a new model, a new partnership, a new agentic use case or startup and a new massive funding round.  One week OpenAI is dominating the space with a new release, while in the next key staff or partners are pivoting away.

Often it’s ridiculous.  Sometimes it’s intriguing.  Sometimes it’s inspiring.

But it’s all actually noise. It’s just one data point on the larger arc of progress.  We won’t know what was important until much later.

However, we do have a great deal of hindsight on a bunch of important things that apply to technology more broadly, AI or not. This is what I like to think about.

I call them the Old Lessons. Mistakes which we’ll repeat if we only pay attention to the new.

Keep reading and writing about what’s hot in AI.  But please, don’t forget about the many lessons which have already shown their importance.
