Not a Checklist
Can you use an AI governance or enablement framework as a checklist?
Simply put - no. There are far too many details that require domain-specific knowledge for this to be possible.
Frameworks are extremely useful - and necessary. Amongst other things, they provide a variety of very specific lenses from which to view the safe implementation of AI.
But there’s plenty that can fall through a framework’s gaps. Think of idiosyncrasies within a specific application area. Such things are well known and understood by experts who operate in this domain, but by few outside of it.
Another thing frameworks will miss are unintended, higher order effects, which are often unpredictable, and surprising. Whats not surprising however is that they often include a human element.
